Wierus Occult Antique Books

Many fantasy and horror movies often feature worm-eaten, leather bound, rare, hard-to-find ancient occult and magical books. These kind of books actually do exist.

Anyone that has a faint knowledge in Western occultism will surely have the knowledge on the grimoires and the works of medievel and renaissance magicians, alchemists, astrologers (Agrippa, Paracelsius, John Dee, to name a few). Most of these works available in the major bookstores are of course modern paperback reprints.

By chance I came across Wierus Antique Books, and according to its website "Wierus was first created in France in the 90s as an association aimed at making an exhaustive bibliography of all known books and manuscripts related to the occult sciences / hermetism , and to have the rarest treatises scanned."

And because due to the lack of funds, the assocation "decided to sell some items of our collection. We are now selling about ten extremely rare books/manuscripts."

That is why Wierus decided to sell their tomes on eBay, currently the they are selling the Illusions et Impostures des Diables on eBay, and the latest bid for this book is €1,910.

So it appears that only very rich occultists can afford to get a copy of these books. And because most of these books are written in Latin, the occultists that wish to buy these tomes apparently are not only wealthy, but intelligent as well.

The catalogue provided by the website includes those famous works like Le Petit Albert, Enchiridion Leonis Papae, works of Agrippa and other old tomes, as well as those rather obscure works on demonology.

But I suppose they still fail to obtain a copy of Necronomicon by the Mad Arab though.
